All fringe (from the matching fabric) is hand frayed which takes many hours. This garment is machine sewn. Choices of buttonhole or button loops on the cuff.
 
This distinctive fringed coat developed in the Colonies around the 1760's and remained popular through the early part of the 19th centuries. George Washington found this garment to be ideal for the military. It has an open front which is usually folded over each other and held closed with a leather belt or a sash.
